The Obama administration attempted to change the overly burdensome export control regulations on firearms. They started a program called “Export Control Reform” (ECR) wherein they tried to move large categories of items from State/ITAR control over to Commerce/EAR control. But when they tried to move our industry off ITAR in 2015, the San Bernardino shooting happened and politics caused the rules for us to be stalled which meant we still couldn’t enjoy less restrictions. Almost two years since their attempt, the Trump administration is once again giving traction to the ECR for the firearms industry.
